Children’s Programs

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

Godly Play and Our PLACE are the first phases of an integrated children’s and youth faith formation program. We seek to transform, not merely inform. In addition to Godly Play and Our PLACE, we offer a variety of special programs throughout the year, including quarterly Family Services at the 9:30 a.m. service, a traditional Christmas Pageant, Maundy Thursday Bread Baking, and a week-long summer camp.

Our sequential programs of play and learning are offered most Sundays during the school year at the 9:30 a.m. service. The nursery is located in a comfortable room on the main level and is appropriate for children ages 6 months to 3 years. In Godly Play preschoolers and kindergarteners take the first steps on their spiritual journey when children feel the mystery, awe and wonder of God. Our PLACE (Peace, Love and Christian Education) program for 1st–5th graders is an innovative and popular introduction to the major stories of the Bible using the workshop rotation model. Children rotate through different workshops, each of which uses various experiential styles to explore that month’s Bible story. Each year we select a theme, choose Bible stories which support that theme, and teach those stories using a variety of mediums, including storytelling, art, drama and games. For the parents and teachers, it’s multi-dimensional learning.  For the kids, it’s a fun way to learn about God’s word.

Youth Groups

Middle School Youth Group (Grades 6-8)  gathers After the 9:30 Sunday service twice per month for fun conversations, games, and snacks. They seek to build community and work together on service projects. They are led by able veteran lay volunteers who have been working with them at St. Alban’s for years.

The High School Youth Group (Grades 9-12) enjoys an emphasis on building connections with one another and caring adults while discovering God amidst everyday lives. They gather one Sunday and one Wednesday per month. The Wednesday gathering is a chance to cook and eat a meal together. The Sunday afternoon activity varies from service projects to fun outings and activities. Sundays also include food and Evening Prayer or Compline.
