Serving at Worship

The Chancel Choir

St. Alban’s Chancel Choir provides music that enriches and beautifies the worship at St. Alban’s on Sundays and certain holy days. From September through June the choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.   The choir sings an offertory anthem and other service music during the 9:30 p.m. worship service. Anyone high school age and older, who loves to sing and can regularly attend rehearsals, is eligible for choir membership.

For additional information contact James Strand, Organist/Choirmaster at 899-4452 or jstrand@maine.rr.com.

The Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir is an important part of the music at St. Alban’s. This group of committed players rehearses each Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and plays for church services and other events from September through June. Any 7th grader through adult who loves music and can regularly attend weekly rehearsals is invited to join this choir.

For more information contact James Strand at 899-4452 or jstrand@maine.rr.com.

Saint Alban’s Altar Guild

The function of the altar guild is to make all necessary preparations for the celebration of the Eucharist or any other sacrament of the church. The church will function to its best, to the Glory of God, with a loyal, devoted and loving altar guild. Saint Alban’s continues to be blessed to have these attributes in the membership of its Altar Guild. We extend an invitation for new members to join us in this important ministry. Altar Guild members are scheduled every 4 to 6 weeks with a three-member team responsible for the Wednesday Eucharist and Sunday services that week. New members are assigned an “angel” (veteran guild member) to help and direct them during training.

If you would like to learn more about joining the Altar Guild, contact Virginia Blackwood at 767-2508.

Ministry of Lector

Lectors read from the first lesson (Old Testament) during Sunday services. No prior experience is required, just a clear voice combined with the ability to read publicly with expression. Lectors are normally scheduled every four to six weeks.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a lector, please call the Church Office at 799-4014 or email stalbans@stalbansmaine.org.

Ministry of Chalice Bearer

Chalice Bearers minister the chalice to communicants at the communion rail during Sunday services. Some chalice bearers are also scheduled to read the psalm and second reading at services. No prior experience is required, just a clear voice combined with the ability to read publicly with expression. Chalice Bearers are normally scheduled no every four to six weeks.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a chalice bearer, please call the Church Office at 799-4014 or email stalbans@stalbansmaine.org.

Ministry of Ushers

Ushers greet and assist parishioners as they arrive for Sunday services, and are often the first person a newcomer to St. Alban’s meets. Ushers help people to find seats, collect and present the offering and oblations during the service and straighten up the church after each service. They help to make Sunday services more meaningful and enjoyable for individual participants by ensuring the smooth flow of the entire church process, including reaction to unforeseen developments and needs of both clergy and attendees. Ushering is open to men, women and families. Parent-youngster ushering teams are encouraged, as are any other combination of family participation. Ushers are typically scheduled every four to six weeks.

For information or to sign up to become an usher, contact Matt Ek at797-4202 , or email at mek@sebagotechnics.com

Saint Alban’s Flower Committee

Saint Alban’s flower committee provides flower arrangements for the altar for Sunday Services. The Flower Committee also shares in the decoration of the entire church for Christmas and Easter services and provides plants or small gifts to shut-ins at Christmas and Easter. We are a small group and would welcome new members who enjoy our activities! No prior experience in flower arranging is required, just a love of flowers-this is a great way to learn an uplifting new skill! Flower committee members are scheduled approximately every six weeks. (However, there are no flowers in the church during the seasons of Lent and Advent.)

If you are interested in learning more about the Flower Committee, please contact Mary Giftos at 904-477-8819.

Ministry of Bread Baker

These individuals bake the bread used for communion during Sunday services. Bread bakers are typically scheduled every eight weeks, though some may be asked to bake additional batches in the weeks prior to Christmas and Easter.

If you would like to learn more about baking bread for our worship services, contact Rose Kennealy at 799-1674 or email rose@kennealy.com.
