JesusSt. Alban’s is committed
to educating all people of all ages. From our regular “Sunday
School” programs for elementary and middle-school youth to varied
offerings throughout the year for adults, St. Alban’s takes the
position that “you are never too young or too old” to learn
more about your faith.
Godly
Play (preschool
and kindergarten)
Godly Play meets at the 9:00 service on Sundays
throughout the school year. In Godly Play children hear a simple
story about God or Jesus and then react to it through dialogue
or working with art materials. Godly Play children return to their
parents in the church during the announcements, about 40 minutes
into the service. For more information with regard to your child
or volunteering to teach, please contact Religious Education Director
Debbie Fisher at
799-4014.
Our PLACE (Grades 1 through 5)
Our PLACE meets during the 9:00 service on Sundays
throughout the school year. Our Place uses a workshop rotation model
that teaches children Bible stories and lessons through repetition
and rotations using different settings and media which include:
• Parable Place a more traditional format where
the teacher becomes storyteller
emphasizing Bible culture and geography
• Show Me Cinema St. Alban’s own cinema with seats from an old movie theater
where children enjoy a film based on the rotation’s theme. (includes popcorn!)
• St. Alban’s Playhouse A drama room with
stage and dressing area and plenty of imaginative costumes and props where the
class puts on a play based
on the rotation’s theme.
• Thou Art A recreated art gallery where children interpret
the Bible story through different artistic media such as painting, mosaics, pottery,
and sculpture.
J2A (Grades 6 through 8)
Journey to Adulthood is a middle-school youth program that combines religious
instruction with service and special events. J2A youth are dismissed
after the sermon to retire their own room in the church basement. The
youth quickly discuss the sermon and then move on to the theme of the
day. This past year J2A youth attended a spaghetti dinner at the rectory,
traveled to Connecticut to bag coffee to sell to parishioners to raise
money for the Heifer Project, and attended special showings of the “Chronicles
of Narnia” and the play “Godspell”. For more information,
contact Mary Townsend at 767-6096.
