Position Description
We are delighted to call a leader to join our community as Assistant Rector,
a half-time position as provided for under the guidelines of the Diocese of Maine.
St. Alban’s
St Alban’s is a vibrant parish located in the coastal town of Cape Elizabeth, just across
the Casco Bay Bridge from Portland, Maine. The congregation draws from Cape
Elizabeth, South Portland, Scarborough, Portland and other Cumberland County
communities.

We seek candidates who find a personal and spiritual coherence in our following goals
for this key position:

relationships matter greatly to our congregation.

helping us to identify our gifts while nurturing and empowering us as the
Body of Christ while we bring individual and common ministries to life.
• We seek a priest who has a passion for the Christian formation of youth.
• We seek a pastor who will be there for us in times of crisis and whenever we seek
guidance.
• We seek a preacher who delivers dynamic, substantive, and inspiring sermons.
Here we know a tradition of preaching from the heart and the head, with a
sense of humor and an aspiration to make the Gospel alive in our everyday lives.
St. Alban’s seeks a priest who has the ability and desire to work in true partnership with
the rector, lay leadership, and the broader congregation. Specific responsibilities of the
Assistant Rector will be:
• creative leadership of ongoing high school youth programs.
• regular preaching at Sunday and weekday services
• regular celebration of the Eucharist.
• active offering of pastoral care to the parish.
• participation with full staff and lay leaders in planning, preparation and completion of
all aspects of parish life, and
• close collaboration with the Minister for Children’s Formation who guides our
youngest.
The Assistant Rector will enjoy the full, friendly and substantive support of the rector,
vestry and staff, as well as a personal parish support committee devoted to sustaining
and nurturing a successful ministry. Mentoring in parish administration, stewardship,
homiletics and other features of ministry are a part of this vocational opportunity.
Clergy Compensation
Good compensation, benefits and vacation time will be offered, consistent with
diocesan guidelines.
Education
Candidates are required to have earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master of Divinity
degree with an Anglican/ Episcopal focus. Academic excellence and additional
advanced education will be valued.
Clerical Status
Candidates are welcome who are presbyters in good standing in the Episcopal Church
or ECLA as well as Candidates for Ordination. Graduating seminary seniors and
transitional deacons are welcome to apply. Other professional credentials will be
valued.
Duration
The parish is making a two-year commitment of resources to support the success of this
position. The new assistant rector is invited to make the same commitment. This position
is currently open and a start date is negotiable.
